After a fantastic repertory Shakespeare double-bill in April, award-winning Daniel Taylor Productions return this October with a new production of the hard-hitting and gritty drama A Taste Of Honey that marks 60 years since its premiere.

Written by British dramatist Shelagh Delaney when she was just 18 years old, it was considered one of the most influential plays of its generation. Part of the post-war kitchen sink movement, the play premiered at Theatre Royal, Stratford East in 1958 before taking the West End by storm when it transferred to The Wyndham Theatre the following year, and The Lyceum Theatre on Broadway in 1960.

The play later became a classic of British cinema when it was adapted for the big screen in 1961 starring Rita Tushingham and Dora Bryan.

Telling the gripping story of the turbulent relationship between mother and daughter, it will star Liverpool actress Sharon Byatt in the role of Helen.

A new stage play by Rob Fennah, By The Waters Of Liverpool, based on the best-selling book by acclaimed author Helen Forrester is to receive its UK premiere at the Liverpool Empire next October!

The play follows the smash-hit success of Forrester’s Twopence To Cross The Mersey and is being brought to audiences by the team behind both the musical and stage play versions of the award-winning true story.

At seventeen, Helen had fought and won two bitter battles with her parents; the first to educate herself, the second for the right to go out to work. Her parents are as financially irresponsible as ever, wasting money while their children still lack adequate food and clothing. But for Helen, things are looking up as she begins to make new friends and develop some social life outside the home.

In 1939, now aged 20 and with Britain on the brink of war, Helen has never been kissed by a man. That is until she meets a tall strong seaman, and falls in love.

By The Waters Of Liverpool has sold more than a million books. Now this is your chance to see it come to life on stage in this exciting new stage play adaptation.
