SOCIAL HOUSING
The council house is a form of public or social housing in the United Kingdom. Council houses were built and operated by local councils to supply uncrowded, well built homes on secure tenancies at affordable rents to the local population. Today, social housing is mainly managed by the local councils registered housing associations.
Anyone over the age of 18 can apply for social housing accomodation as long as they meet the necessary criterias. Please see below the housing associations operating in Liverpool and the surrounding areas. |

Liverpool City Council
Municipal Buildings, Dale St, Liverpool L2 2DH |
We're working hard to improve our understanding of the local housing markets, set priorities for capital investment and service delivery, and provide real benefits to you. We no longer have a "Housing Section" like other Councils do. All of our Council owned homes were transferred to registered social landlords bewtween 1998 and 2008. We do, however, have a Housing Strategy Team who look at the overall picture of housing within the city. The social housing landlords identify where problems exist within our housing areas, and seek funding to put things right where necessary. Environmental Health are responsible for enforcing standards of rented housing. If you'd like to contact us you can do so by calling Liverpool Direct on 0151 233 3001 or at one of our One Stop Shops. |
In 2002, we agreed to the sale of over 17,000 properties to Knowsley Housing Trust – so that funding could be obtained to bring them all up to decent homes standard by 2010. KHT are well on the way to achieve and even exceed this target. |
All Council housing is now owned and managed by Wirral Partnership Homes and Beechwood and Ballantyne Community Housing Association, who are both Registered Social Landlords. They manage approximately 14,500 properties throughout Wirral. As a Council, we are committed to meeting the housing needs of Wirral to make sure that good-quality housing and housing services are available to everyone who lives in the area. In partnership with local housing providers and other community services, we're working to create and improve neighbourhood conditions to support healthy, confident and sustainable communities. |
In October 2006 the Council transferred its Council houses to a new Housing Association, “One Vision Housing”, to ensure that these homes would be of a decent standard and that the families living in them would receive high quality services.
If your enquiry relates to renting a home from One Vision Housing or the repair, management or tenancy of a One Vision property please access the One Vision Housing website. |
